Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Thursday (May 21, 2026) met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at Rail Bhavan in New Delhi, urging him to regularise train timings and improve passenger amenities on the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) in Hyderabad.

Need for more reliable schedules

According to an official release, Mr. Reddy emphasised the importance of MMTS suburban train services, describing them as a vital mode of transportation for commuters in Hyderabad and its surrounding areas. He highlighted the need for more reliable schedules and enhanced facilities to better serve the daily passengers.

Railways Minister responds positively

Mr. Vaishnaw responded positively to the request and assured his Cabinet colleague that he would convene a special meeting with the officials concerned to formulate and implement measures aimed at improving the MMTS network.

Railway projects in Telangana reviewed

The two ministers also conducted a comprehensive review of railway projects in Telangana. Discussions covered new initiatives, electrification works, and other ongoing developments across the State. Progress on the redevelopment of 42 major railway stations in Telangana was also reviewed.

Status of new railway lines in Telangana

In addition, the meeting addressed the status of new railway lines and proposed high-speed rail corridor projects within the State. Mr. Vaishnaw reiterated that the [Prime Minister] Narendra Modi government is committed to strengthening the railway network, expanding connectivity, and enhancing passenger facilities. He affirmed that efforts are being made with full dedication to support infrastructure development and improve services for the public in Telangana, the release added.
