Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has received major legal relief after the Jharkhand High Court quashed a 2014 FIR related to alleged Model Code of Conduct violation. The case stemmed from his campaign activity during the 2014 Assembly elections in the Adityapur area of Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

The FIR, registered at Adityapur police station, had accused him of breaching election norms while campaigning for a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate. The High Court, after examining the matter, ordered the cancellation of the FIR, effectively bringing the long-pending case to an end.

According to court records, FIR No. 418/2014 invoked Sections 188 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 125 of the Representation of the People Act. The allegations claimed that Soren had violated election guidelines and created circumstances that amounted to disobedience of lawful orders issued by public authorities.

The matter was being heard in the lower court in West Singhbhum before the High Court intervened. During the proceedings, Advocate Dipankar appeared for the Chief Minister and argued that the allegations lacked factual basis and did not constitute any genuine breach of the Model Code of Conduct.

The petitioner maintained that the complaint was politically motivated and deserved to be dismissed at the threshold.

Justice Anil Kumar Chaudhary of the Jharkhand High Court, after hearing arguments from all parties, concluded that continuing the proceedings would serve no legal purpose. The court observed that the material on record did not substantiate the allegations sufficiently to justify the continuation of criminal proceedings.

Earlier, the High Court had also stayed the trial in the lower court, which had remained pending for several years. With the final order now passed, the FIR stands quashed, effectively closing the decade-old dispute arising from the 2014 election campaign. The decision has been viewed as a significant procedural relief for Soren in the long-running matter.

The ruling is expected to provide political and legal relief to Hemant Soren, who has faced multiple legal challenges in recent years. While the High Court’s decision does not alter the historical context of the case, it removes a long-standing legal hurdle linked to the 2014 election period.

Quashing of the FIR reinforces the importance of procedural scrutiny in election-related complaints. With this order, the matter related to the alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct has formally concluded, bringing closure to a case that had remained active for over a decade.
