Saketh, who was studying at the University of California, Berkeley, reportedly left the campus after bidding goodbye to his friends but never returned to his room

Six days after he went missing, Saketh's body was found near Anja Lake.
The mysterious death of 22-year-old Saketh Sreenivasaiah, a student from Karnataka pursuing higher studies in California, US, has left his family and many others deeply shaken, raising troubling questions for parents who send their children abroad in search of better opportunities.
Saketh, who was studying at the University of California, Berkeley, reportedly left the campus after bidding goodbye to his friends but never returned to his room. Six days after he went missing, his body was found near Anja Lake. The exact cause of his death remains unclear, and authorities are yet to complete the post-mortem examination.
In the days following his disappearance, a final social media post by Saketh has drawn attention and triggered speculation. In the post, he remembered his close friend Kedar Suresh, a second-year undergraduate student in Chemical Engineering at IIT-Madras, who had died by suicide in his hostel room in April 2023.
Kedar’s death had made headlines at the time, and Saketh’s mention of him shortly before his own disappearance has raised concerns about his mental state.
Friends have since shared that Saketh had been struggling with loneliness. His roommate, Banit Singh, said Saketh had recently expressed feelings that no one cared about him. On the day he went missing, Saketh reportedly made a final call to his mother, which went unanswered. He disappeared minutes later.
Despite the discovery of the body, Saketh’s parents have said they are not ready to accept his death until they see him. The family has been trying to secure an emergency visa for the past two days to travel to the United States.
