Renovated AN Jha hostel inaugurated at AU

Prayagraj: The renovated building of Amarnath Jha Hostel at Allahabad University was inaugurated by vice-chancellor Prof Sangita Srivastava on Thursday. The hostel, which has 136 rooms, underwent extensive renovation and restoration work aimed at reviving its historic legacy.During the event, the VC inspected both buildings of the hostel and issued necessary directions to officials. She said the varsity administration was committed to restoring the institution’s old glory and the renovation of AN Jha Hostel was part of that effort. She recalled that the demand for renovation was strongly raised during the alumni meet held last year.Established in 1911 as Muir Hostel, the institution was renamed Amarnath Jha Hostel in 1956 in honour of Dr AN Jha, who served as its warden from 1928 to 1947 and later as vice-chancellor of the university. Renovation work included repair and repainting of rooms and verandahs, installation of a new sewer system, and replacement of the old electrical wiring.
