Residents of Rajarajeshwari Nagar (BEML Layout Second Stage) near Dattagalli have formed the ‘Rajarajeshwari Nagara Nagarika Vedike’ to fight for their long-pending basic amenities.

Though the forum has been working for a year to resolve the locality’s issues with MUDA, the Urban Development Department, and other authorities concerned, it was formally inaugurated at a function on Sunday. The MUDA-approved layout is yet to be transferred to a local body and currently falls neither under the Mysuru City Corporation nor the Bogadi Town Panchayat.

MLA for Chamundeshwari G.T. Deve Gowda inaugurated the forum and assured residents that their problems would be resolved within three months. “I understand you have tolerated the lack of basic amenities like roads and drainage for years. The forum has been working towards regularising the layout and has met me several times. I assure you your problems will be addressed in about three months,” he said.

Andolana managing editor Rashmi Koti lauded the residents’ unity and urged them to continue their efforts until their objectives are achieved. “Despite being one of the oldest layouts, it still lacks proper roads, drainage, parks, and even a polling booth,” she said.

Vedike general secretary Devadas N.K. briefed the gathering on the forum’s activities over the past year, while president S.K. Gopalaiah urged the MLA to prioritise the layout’s development. Rajarajeshwari Nagar Gelathi Mahila Mandali honorary president D.C. Vijayalakshmi also spoke.

Vedike vice-president B.J. Mohan Krishna, joint secretary S. Suresh, secretary Shashidhar, organising secretary H.N. Chowdappa, treasurer K. Srinivas, Purushottam, and legal advisor K.T. Ramesh were present.
