Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will step into the Osmania University (OU) on Monday (August 25, 2025), setting a new milestone as the first Chief Minister to visit the University — that was the hotbed of the Telangana agitation — after the formation of separate Telangana State.

Former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao attended the Centenary celebrations of the University held in a hostile atmosphere, and he had to drop his speech from the schedule, leaving only the then President Pranab Mukherjee to deliver the Centenary address. His earlier visit to OU was opposed by students who objected to KCR’s plans to obtain OU lands for two-bedroom houses.

So Mr. Revanth Reddy will be the first Chief Minister to participate in the developmental programmes and also address the students on the campus. While BRS-affiliated student groups have strongly opposed it, the Congress-affiliated student groups are equally determined to make it a grand success.

Research scholar Chanagani Dayakar said the students welcome the CM wholeheartedly as he is fulfilling the promise of job notifications. During his visit, the Chief Minister will inaugurate a state-of-the-art Digital Library Reading Room, built at a cost of ₹10 crore, and also a new hostel building.

Mr. Reddy will also launch a scheme to provide financial assistance to students for foreign educational trips, apart from announcing the introduction of the “CM Research Fellowship” to support advanced academic research.
