The life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has inspired numerous films, television serials and documentaries over the years. His story has been retold across several Indian languages and formats. Now, the actor Rishab Shetty is preparing for a busy phase with multiple high-profile projects in the pipeline.

Among them is 'The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj', a historical drama that has now taken a major transformation. The film was originally announced as a single feature. However, the makers have reportedly decided to expand the narrative into a two-part theatrical franchise.

Two-part release strategy finalised for 'The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’

Directed by Sandeep Singh, the film will explore the life and achievements of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj across two chapters. According to Variety India reports, the makers felt that a larger canvas was required to do justice to the historical figure's journey.

The first installment is currently being planned for a theatrical release in 2028. The second chapter is expected to follow in 2029, allowing the story to unfold across two films.

The project is also making headlines because of its reported production cost. Reports suggest the historical epic is being mounted on a budget exceeding Rs 500 crore.

Major portions of ‘The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’ to be shot in Maharashtra

A considerable portion of the production is expected to take place in Maharashtra.

The region holds deep historical significance because many important chapters of Shivaji Maharaj's life unfolded there. The filmmakers are reportedly planning to use several locations connected to the ruler's journey.

'Jai Hanuman' to be completed first

Before stepping onto the sets of the historical epic, Rishab Shetty is expected to complete work on 'Jai Hanuman'. The film is being directed by Prashanth Varma and features Shetty in the role of Lord Hanuman. Once his commitments to that project are completed, the actor is expected to begin principal photography for The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Following the success of 'Kantara'

Rishab Shetty's most recent major release was 'Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1'. The 2025 mythological action-thriller served as a prequel to the blockbuster 'Kantara'.
