RMC cracks down on illegal construction

RAIPUR: Acting on the severe reprimands issued during Monday’s special general meeting regarding unauthorized constructions choking the city’s infrastructure, the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) launched a major demolition drive today.

Earthmovers rolled into Kushalpur Ring Road-1 to dismantle an illegal two-story commercial complex built without official sanction.The structure, a Ground-plus-One (G+1) commercial building spanning approximately 1,500 square feet, was erected by Sunil Khandelwal without securing the necessary building permissions from the town planning authority. RMC’s Zone 5 Town Planning Department served a final warning notice to the builder before initiating the demolition.The heavy crackdown was executed under the strict directives of Municipal Commissioner Sambit Mishra. To prevent any local resistance, an adequate police force was deployed at the site. The anti-encroachment drive was carried out under the direct supervision of the Zone 5 Commissioner and other officials.With the aid of earthmovers, the unauthorized structure was brought down. This stringent action signals a renewed zero-tolerance approach by the civic body against illegal construction, a core issue heavily criticized by the Mayor and councilors following the city’s recent severe monsoon waterlogging crisis.
