 Valuables worth Rs 1cr looted

Patna: Around 24–25 masked and armed robbers stormed the house of a retired teacher at Gajhara village under Ladania police station in Madhubani district early Saturday and decamped with valuables worth around Rs 1 crore.

The incident occurred at the residence of Dayakant Jha, former principal of Gajhara Sanskrit College.According to police, the robbers held the family hostage at gunpoint and ransacked the house for nearly an hour, looting cash, gold and important documents. They also took away the CCTV DVR to destroy evidence.Madhubani SP Yogendra said police suspect the involvement of a cross-border criminal gang, considering the village’s proximity to the Nepal border and the foggy conditions that aided their escape. “A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by DSP Raghav Dayal has been formed, and CCTV footage from nearby houses is being examined. Local resident Suryanath Jha has been detained for questioning as the probe continues,” he added.
