Roblox rolls out Kids and Select accounts in India, with age-based limits and stronger parental controls

Roblox has launched two new age-based account types in India, Roblox Kids and Roblox Select, as it rolls out globally. The accounts automatically sort every user under 16 into a tier that matches their games, chat access, and parental controls to their age, then ease those limits as the child gets older.India is part of the worldwide release that follows a smaller debut last month in Australia, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. Which account a child lands in depends on Roblox's age check, done either through government ID or a quick facial scan via the device camera. Roblox says those images are deleted once processing is done.

Roblox Kids vs Roblox Select: how access changes with age

The two tiers feel quite different in practice. Roblox Kids, for ages 5 to 8, runs the strictest settings: only games rated Minimal or Mild that have passed an extra review, and chat turned off completely unless a linked parent allows it.

Roblox Select, for ages 9 to 15, adds games rated up to Moderate and lets chat open up gradually by age and region. A child moves up from Kids to Select at 9, then to a standard account at 16.Getting a game into these catalogs is harder for developers, too. They have to verify their identity, lock down their account, and pay a subscription or a refundable publishing fee. Games built around social hangouts, free-form drawing, or sensitive themes are kept out entirely.

Block games, cap spending, manage chat, all until 16

For Indian parents, the controls may matter more than the tiers. A linked parent account can block specific games, manage chat, set screen-time and spending caps, and wave through individual games their child wants, with many of these controls now stretching until the child turns 16.Vineeta Garg, IT Head at SRDAV Public School and a member of Roblox's Global Parent Council, welcomed the launch as a real step toward safer, age-appropriate play. Roblox also plans to shift to the IARC content-rating standard later this year.
