Rowdies booked for attacking residents

Trichy: Four youths, three of them history-sheeters, were booked by Golden Rock police in Trichy for assaulting and attempting to murder two residents of Kottapattu who questioned them for smoking cannabis near their home on Saturday.Around 6pm, J Jegannathan, 32, was speaking to his neighbour R Nagaraj, 33, in front of his house on Mariamman Kovil Street. At that time, M Shahrukh Khan, 20, a history-sheeter from Ranjithpuram, and his friend A Melwin Mohan, 20, from Ponmalai, came to their street..On finding them smoking cannabis and suspecting them to be troublemakers, Jegannathan and Nagaraj questioned them. An argument broke out and Nagaraj allegedly assaulted Shahrukh Khan during the altercation.

Shahrukh Khan and Melwin Mohan left the spot, but returned moments later with two more rowdies — Mohamed Jafran, 19, and A Rohith John. The group confronted Jegannathan and Nagaraj, abused them, hacked them with bill hooks, and attempted to murder them before fleeing.Jegannathan and Nagaraj sustained injuries across their bodies. Shahrukh Khan also suffered injuries when the victims fought back. All three have been admitted to hospital for treatment.Golden Rock police registered a case under sections 296 (b), 118(1), 109, ad 351 (3) of BNS for abuse, voluntarily causing hurt, abetment, and assault. Police are on the lookout for the remaining suspects.
