Trichy: Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel in Trichy division have rescued 130 children found in vulnerable circumstances at railway stations and onboard trains between Jan 1 and June 25 this year.The rescued children were produced before the appropriate authorities and reunited with their parents or guardians through coordination with Childline, Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), Government Railway Police (GRP), and local police.During the period, RPF said eight theft cases were reported and stolen properties valued at ₹4.6 lakh were recovered and restored to the owners. It has also apprehended 4,696 offenders for offences including touting, unauthorized trespassing, public nuisance, and stone pelting.
Penalties amounting to ₹13.1 lakh were imposed.As a part of Operation Amanat, RPF personnel recovered unattended luggage, valuables, electronic gadgets, cash, and important documents, and returned them to passengers in 139 incidents across the division.As a part of anti-touting operations to ensure fair ticket availability for passengers, RPF Trichy has arrested 20 touts and seized 264 railway tickets worth of ₹3.3 lakh from them. RPF also organised 2,315 awareness programmes across the division in the first six months of the year.
