Agra: A 30-year-old man, who had married a woman from Firozabad in March, was allegedly beaten to death during his first visit to his in-laws’ house on Thursday night. The prime accused, his brother-in-law, was arrested after an encounter on Friday, police said.Devesh Singh alias Dau, an autorickshaw driver and resident of Tedhi Bagiya, had been living in Agra with his wife after the couple married against her family’s wishes. “According to Devesh’s family, the woman’s relatives assaulted and strangled him after he reached his in-laws’ house with his wife for the first time after the wedding,” an officer at Ramgarh police station, privy to the case, told TOI. His body was found near Chapariya locality late Thursday night.An FIR was registered at Ramgarh police station on the complaint of the victim’s uncle under BNS sections 103(1) for murder and 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt. Two police teams were formed to investigate the case.Police said they received information on Friday morning that the prime accused, Sameer Mohammad, 28, was hiding in Hasmatnagar, Firozabad. When a police team surrounded him, he allegedly opened fire instead of surrendering. Police retaliated and Sameer sustained bullet injuries in both legs. He was arrested and admitted to the district hospital under police custody.SP (city) Ravishankar Prasad said raids were on to arrest the remaining named accused. A separate FIR was registered against Sameer under BNS section 109(1) for attempt to murder and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
