Sacked cop kills wife, stepdaughter with axe, surrenders in Raipur

RAIPUR: A dismissed policeman allegedly hacked his wife and 22-year-old stepdaughter to death with an axe inside their home in Chhattisgarh capital on Wednesday, then walked into a police station and surrendered, claiming prolonged domestic discord pushed him to commit the crime.The incident occurred at Semaria village in Vidhan Sabha region. The accused, Gulab Sahu, is alleged to have first attacked his wife Lata Sahu and then killed her daughter Chitra Sahu, police said.Officers said Gulab later reached the police station and confessed. During preliminary questioning, he cited ongoing family disputes and suspicions about his wife’s infidelity, though police said all angles are being verified.Gulab had earlier been dismissed from police service on disciplinary grounds, police said adding that neighbours also alerted the cops after the incident, following which a team rushed to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them for postmortem.Lata had married Gulab around four years ago. Chitra was her daughter from a previous marriage. There had been frequent arguments in the family, including tensions over the young woman’s personal life, which often led to confrontations.The accused is in custody and being interrogated. Police said the exact sequence of events and motive will be established after detailed investigation.
