Federal jury rules Elon Musk sued OpenAI too late, says his claims against Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, The OpenAI Foundation and Microsoft are time barred.

A US federal jury on Monday ruled against Elon Musk in his legal battle with OpenAI, finding that the billionaire filed his lawsuit too late under applicable legal deadlines.
The decision marks a major win for OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, effectively ending one of Silicon Valley’s most closely watched courtroom disputes over the future and governance of artificial intelligence.
Jurors in the Oakland federal court concluded that Musk’s claims against Altman, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, The OpenAI Foundation, and Microsoft were barred by statutes of limitations — legal rules that set time limits for bringing lawsuits.
Following the verdict, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers accepted and confirmed the jury’s findings, delivering a decisive setback to Musk’s case.
