Seven school students were injured after a mini-bus overturned into a roadside canal at Kakkaravila, near Neyyattinkara, on Friday.
According to the police, the vehicle, which was operating on a contract basis for New Jyothi Public School, was carrying 11 occupants, including nine students, the driver and an attendant. The vehicle is suspected to have lost control after one of its tyres got stuck in mud along a narrow stretch of the road. It then veered off the road and overturned into an adjacent canal.
Local residents and officials rushed to the scene and safely evacuated the children before shifting them to the General Hospital in Neyyattinkara.
Official sources said the injured students were out of danger, with most having sustained only minor injuries. However, two children suffered fractures and remain under treatment, while the others have been discharged after receiving medical care. The police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
