INDORE: What residents thought would be another heated argument over disputed penthouse activities ended in a fatal incident that has left the township shaken.A homemaker and a resident of the township, Rekha Gupta, said that there was anger but no sense of danger.
"We came down thinking it would be sorted out like before. No one imagined it would go this far," she said.
According to eyewitnesses, the penthouse owner Kuldeep Choudhary reacted by cutting electricity to other flats, drawing more residents into the confrontation. Arguments intensified, family members were called in, and a scuffle broke out. In the chaos, his son Mohnish allegedly assaulted a resident.Even then, residents said they were trying to hold things together.
Some insisted the teenager stay back until police arrived. As he tried to leave and the society gate was shut, the confrontation reached a breaking point. Some alleged that Kuldeep shouted at his son to drive into the crowd.Within moments, the car sped down the slope into residents. People ran in panic as the vehicle hit several individuals. Eyewitnesses said it reversed and drove forward again, striking more people near the gate.
"The screams, the confusion - it all happened in seconds," Gupta said.By the time it stopped, the gathering turned into a scene of injuries and shock. A tech professional later died, leaving residents grappling with how a protest spiralled into deadly violence.
