Two minor girls who had gone to sleep with their parents at a rented house near Vadakara in Kozhikode district were reported missing in the early hours of Saturday (May 16, 2026), prompting an extensive police search.
A 12-year-old girl and her 16-year-old relative, both natives of West Bengal, had been residing in a rented house at Mayyannur near Vadakara along with their parents. According to police sources, the girls were found missing, following which their relatives lodged a formal complaint.
The police have launched an intensified search focussing on CCTV visuals and mobile phone location. Preliminary findings indicated that the girls had boarded a north-bound train after leaving the house for unknown reasons.
Special teams have been formed to trace the girls with the support of the Railway Protection Force and police units in other States. Several railway stations and transit points have been brought under surveillance as part of efforts to trace the two, the police said.
