Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae is likely to visit India in July to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While Indian authorities are yet to officially confirm the visit, preparations are reportedly underway for the proposed engagement.

Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported that Takaichi is expected to travel to Assam, where she will hold her second face-to-face meeting with Modi.

The two leaders last met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, where they reaffirmed the importance of strong India-Japan relations for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond.

The proposed visit to Assam is expected to highlight the growing cooperation between the two countries in India’s northeast region. Through the India-Japan Act East Forum, both sides have been working on projects aimed at boosting infrastructure and economic development in the region.

According to reports, discussions during the summit are likely to cover the economic impact of the ongoing conflict in West Asia. India and Japan are both heavily dependent on energy supplies that pass through the Strait of Hormuz, making developments in the region a matter of concern.

The leaders are also expected to explore ways to strengthen cooperation in the critical minerals sector, which has become increasingly important for emerging technologies and industrial supply chains.
