NEW DELHI: Babar Azam may not have found a place in Pakistan’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, but his immense popularity among fans was once again on display. During a veterans’ match in Pakistan, a fan created a dramatic moment by breaching security, jumping the barrier, and chasing Babar onto the field.

The former captain tried to evade him but was eventually caught. The overzealous supporter hugged Babar before going a step further and planting a forced kiss on him.

Security officials rushed in immediately, intervening to separate the fan from the cricketer and escort him away from the ground. The incident highlighted the adoration Babar continues to enjoy, despite his omission from the national squad for the continental tournament in the UAE.

Pakistan selectors have excluded both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan from the T20 squad. While the pair have been consistent performers in the shortest format, neither has featured for Pakistan since December. Head coach Mike Hesson justified their absence by pointing to the good form of other players currently in contention.

In their place, all-rounder Salman Agha has been entrusted with the captaincy. The squad also marks the return of fast bowlers Mohammad Wasim and Salman Mirza.
