Argentine superstar Lionel Messi opened up on his mentality when it comes to winning in a candid interview as he revealed that he doesn’t even let his kids get one over him on video games.
“I like winning at everything! I don’t even let my sons win in video games," Messi said.
“That’s just the way I am, and it’s what led me to achieve everything I’ve achieved. I don’t know how to lose, but that’s what made me who I am", he added.
Messi enjoyed his crowning moment at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar by leading Argentina to a decisive victory over France, securing their third world title. The dramatic final finished 3-3 after extra time, forcing a penalty shoot-out to decide the champion.
Messi scored twice for Argentina, while Angel Di Maria netted another. Kylian Mbappe replied with a hat-trick for France, turning the match into a breathtaking spectacle.
Argentina’s campaign began with a shocking 1-2 loss to Saudi Arabia, but they quickly recovered with a 2-0 win over Mexico. They confirmed their place in the knockout stages with another 2-0 victory, this time against Poland.
In the Round of 16, Argentina defeated Australia 2-1, then edged past the Netherlands 4-3 in a thrilling quarterfinal. Messi and his teammates went on to overpower Croatia 3-0 in the semifinal before finally lifting the prestigious trophy after the exhilarating final.
France, the previous holder before Argentina scripted history in the middle-east, put up a valiant fight in the final against the Albiceleste, but Messi carried his side over the line to carve a niche for himself in World Cup history.
The eight-time Ballo d’Or winner will look to defend his title in the USA, Canada and Mexico, slated to begin in June. The South American heavyweights would face resistance from quality European giants including the likes of the star-studded France and the synchronous Spain.
