Seven PMC colonies up for redevelopment, residents get notices to vacate

Ambil Odha PMC colony will soon go up for redevelopment

Pune: The civic body has planned the redevelopment of dilapidated municipal colonies built several decades ago. The administration has sent notices to the occupants of seven housing complexes located across civic areas to vacate the premises to facilitate rebuilding.Pune Municipal Corporation officials said around 1,900 flats are in poor condition and residents must leave the properties. Of these, 288 houses will be taken up on priority. The process to finalise the redevelopment plan is under way. The project will be carried out either by PMC on its own or on a build, operate and transfer basis. A private builder may be roped in for the redevelopment.Civic officials said project-affected people, who gave up land or properties for civic projects, are living in PMC colonies in Pandavnagar, Wakadewadi, Ghorpadi, along Ambil Odha and in Sadashiv Peth.

The residents will be moved to other civic properties built to relocate project-affected people in Hadapsar, Balewadi and nearby areas.“The civic administration has sent a public notice and appealed to the residents to leave the premises. The administration will carry out redevelopment of these old properties as per its policy,” Vishal Haribhakta, superintending engineer of PMC’s Bhavan Department, said. The civic norms for dilapidated properties categorise the structures into three types, C1, C2 and C3. The most dangerous have been defined as C1, while those that need huge repairs are in C2 category. The C3 category structures need minor repairs. The seven municipal colonies are C1 properties and a structural audit recommended their demolition.Civic officials said that these properties have been given to the occupiers on a rental basis. After redevelopment, each property measuring 550sqft will be offered to each tenant on rent.
