A seven-year-old girl was raped and murdered in Andhra Pradesh. Public anger led to protests and highway blockade. Investigation continues.

A seven-year-old girl was brutally raped and murdered in Madanapalle town of Annamayya district in Andhra Pradesh, leading to widespread public anger. The body of the minor girl was recovered from a drum on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Kulavardhan (30), who lived near the victim’s house.

According to police, the accused was allegedly addicted to drugs and alcohol. Police said Kulavardhan first assaulted the child and then drowned her in a water drum. It is learnt that he kept the body in his room overnight.

Child Went Missing On Monday

The victim, a Class 2 student, had gone missing on Monday evening, prompting her family to approach police after they failed to locate her. Subsequently, police launched a town-wide search and examined CCTV footage. Although officers visited the suspect’s house around 1.30 am, they left after seeing him asleep through a window.

They returned in the morning, broke down the door, only to discover the girl’s body in a drum. The accused has a prior criminal record. Meanwhile, locals have claimed that earlier intervention might have prevented the tragedy.

As the news of the tragic incident spread, numerous people, including political representatives, gathered and blocked the Madanapalle-Chennai highway for hours. The public demanded Kulavardhan’s arrest and wanted him handed over to them.

Further, efforts to shift the child’s body for postmortem were delayed as her family refused to release it. Kadapa SP Shelke Nachiket Viswanath attempted to persuade the protestors, but the family remained firm. It was late in the evening before the police could move the body to the government general hospital in Madanapalle for postmortem.

Soon after the incident, a dead body was found in a separate tank near the village. Locals suspect that the body belongs to Kulavardhan. Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and began an investigation. Further investigation is underway.
