A trans woman has accused Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil of sexual harassment, alleging that Mamkootathil sent her messages expressing his desire to rape her.

“I think he is sexually frustrated because he said he wants to rape me. He said we can go to Bengaluru or Hyderabad and do it,” she said.

Avanthika added that they first met during an election debate, and what began as a normal friendship turned into a “disgusting experience” through messages on social media.

Mamkootathil resigned from his post as Kerala Youth Congress State President on Thursday following harassment allegations by Malayalam actor Rini Ann George, and later, writer Honey Bhaskaran.

Rini had accused a “youth leader” from a major political party of sending offensive messages and inviting her to a hotel. Though she did not name anyone, BJP and DYFI staged protests at Mamkootathil’s office, demanding action.

Honey Bhaskaran named Mamkootathil, alleging repeated offensive messages and misrepresentation of their conversations, adding that complaints within the Youth Congress had gone unaddressed.

In his resignation, Mamkootathil said he was stepping down not because of wrongdoing but to allow party workers to focus on upcoming elections. He emphasized that no party leader asked him to resign and termed it his personal responsibility.

Reacting to his resignation, Kerala Minister R Bindu said, “Many women have raised serious allegations against the young MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. It is urgent that he should resign as MLA. He has resigned from the post of Youth Congress. It is important that he steps down from the MLA post to safeguard society.”
