Delivery agent's defence after Bengaluru woman says he barged into her flat, flashed her; Flipkart fires him

The accused has been identified as Vijay Mallikarjun Kamath

BENGALURU: A routine parcel delivery allegedly turned into a frightening ordeal for a food vlogger, 27, Saturday afternoon after a delivery agent allegedly forced his way into her washroom and exposed himself to her.Based on the woman’s complaint, Marathahalli police arrested Vijay Mallikarjun Kamat, 22, from Belagavi district on Sunday. The woman, who lives in Munnekollala, shared a video on Instagram describing the incident and recounting her experience.Flipkart, in a statement, offered support to the woman and said it has terminated Kamat’s engagement. According to the woman, a Flipkart delivery agent arrived at her home around 1.30pm to deliver a parcel and then asked if he could use her washroom.

“I politely refused multiple times and told him that I do not allow strangers inside my home. Even when he said it was an emergency, I suggested that he ask the male neighbours next door instead. I believed that would be the end of the conversation,” she said in a post on social media.According to the woman, the delivery agent removed his slippers and forcibly entered her flat.“In that moment, I was terrified. Living alone as a woman, my mind immediately went to the countless news reports of crimes against women.

I feared for my safety. To protect myself, I switched on my phone camera, kept my main door open, and stood near the entrance throughout, hoping that if anything happened, I could run outside and call for help. But what happened next left me completely shaken,” she said.“When he came out of the washroom, he exposed his private parts to me. I felt shocked, violated, humiliated, and completely unsafe in my own home. No woman should ever have to experience something like this,” she said, adding that the video was shared to create awareness. In the video, the man is running out of her house with his trousers unzipped as the woman starts shouting at him.Based on her complaint, Marathahalli police registered a case under Sections 75 (sexual harassment), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 329 (criminal trespass and house-trespass).A senior police officer said, “The accused claimed that he urgently needed to relieve himself and therefore used the woman’s washroom.

He alleged that she began shouting at him, prompting him to run out of the house in panic. He denied exposing himself to her. Further investigation is in progress.”Flipkart said: “As soon as the matter came to our attention, we immediately terminated the engagement of the delivery partner involved. We are reviewing the matter thoroughly to determine whether any additional measures can further strengthen our customer safety processes.”
