The Hyderabad SHE Teams received 102 complaints relating to harassment of women during June and apprehended 127 people for various offences, while securing convictions in 14 cases, according to data released by the Women Safety Wing on Friday.
Police said the apprehended individuals were involved in acts of harassment and misbehaviour against women at public places. The convictions were secured through investigation and timely legal action.
As part of surveillance at vulnerable locations across the city, SHE Teams also detected several incidents of eve teasing and harassment. During special operations, six men were found independently misbehaving with women by inappropriately touching them in public places, causing distress and inconvenience to the victims. Four transgender persons were also found allegedly involved in unlawful activities.
Petty cases were registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Hyderabad City Police Act. The court convicted the six men and sentenced them to three days of simple imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1,000 each. Two transgender persons were also convicted in petty cases and fined ₹1,050 each.
The Women Safety Wing said strict legal action would continue against those involved in harassment, stalking, sexual harassment, cyber abuse and misuse of social media. Women facing harassment have been urged to approach SHE Teams or contact the police by dialling 100 or 112, or through the SHE Teams WhatsApp helpline on 9490616555.
