BJP MP Jagadish Shettar has said that he will discuss with the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor and members the issue of getting a resolution declaring Belagavi as an integral part of Karnataka passed in the Belagavi City Corporation council.
Speaking to presspersons in Belagavi on Saturday, Mr. Shettar said that Belagavi will always be an integral part of Karnataka irrespective of a resolution being passed in the municipal corporation.
The municipal council has sought the opinion of the State government on passing a resolution in this regard, he said and clarified that the BJP is not indulging in any language politics.
“Here Kannadigas and Marathi-speaking people live harmoniously and we are not sacrificing the interests of Kannadigas for the votes of Marathi-speaking people,” he said.
Mr. Shettar further said that moreover, Marathi-speaking people are not from Pakistan but Indians. He said that he will appeal to all not to create differences based on language. Instead, everyone should join hands together for the development of Belagavi, he said.
