Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and co-founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha Shibu Soren passed away on Monday (August 4, 2025). His son, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, announced the death through the social media platform X.
Soren had been admitted to the Sri Ganga Ram Hospital in the national capital for over a month due to a kidney-related issue.

A hospital bulletin said Soren was declared dead at 8:56 a.m. on Monday (August 4, 2025). Shibu Soren had suffered a stroke one and a half months back and was on a life support system for the last month. He was under the treatment of Dr. A.K. Bhalla, Chairman, Nephrology and a team from Neurology and ICU, hospital sources told The Hindu.
The 81-year-old leader had been the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha for the past 38 years and is recognised as the party’s founding patron.
Mr. Shibu, 81, has been receiving regular treatment at the hospital for an extended period. “He was admitted here recently, so we came to see him. His health issues are currently being examined,” Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said on June 24 when his father was admitted.
