Mumbai: Shilpa Medicare’s biotech research arm Shilpa Biocare Pvt Ltd has announced a 30.4% equity stake acquisition in Spanish biotechnology firm Gate2Brain, S.L. as it looks to strengthen research in emerging oncology treatments. The deal worth about €7 million, is aimed at contributing to the ‘manufacturing and regulatory depth required to bring G2B-002 to first-in-human studies and extend its application to other molecules and therapy categories,’ the company said in a press release.
Gate2Brain is developing the G2B-002 anticancer agent aimed at treating lethal childhood intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) and pediatric glioblastoma (pGBM) brain cancers. Through its MiniAp4 peptide shuttle, Gate2Brain has demonstrated up to 100-fold greater brain drug transport than conventional methods.
For Shilpa Medicare, this means an estimated $3.01 billion market opportunity with a CAGR of about 7.97%. Gate2Brain’s peptide shuttle platform is also expected to work across other rare pediatric cancers, further expanding its long-term commercial opportunities.
Shilpa Medicare has been on a roll lately, as the API maker reported strong revenue growth for FY26 and is now looking to reinforce its emphasis on building a portfolio of high-potential therapeutic assets that drive long-term value creation for shareholders and society.
“Gate2Brain’s blood-brain-barrier technology is among the most differentiated CNS-delivery platforms we have evaluated. Becoming a strategic shareholder allows Shilpa to participate in long-term value creation while contributing the manufacturing and regulatory depth required to bring G2B-002 to first-in-human studies and extend its application to other molecules and therapy categories.” Vishnukant Bhutada, Managing Director, Shilpa Medicare, said.
“This partnership gives G2B-002 a clear, de-risked path to the clinic and validates our peptide-shuttle platform with a top-tier oncology partner. Aligning Shilpa’s manufacturing and regulatory capabilities with our science is the right structure to deliver this program — and the next ones — to patients.” Meritxell Teixidó Turà, CEO, Gate2Brain added.
