Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegade has appealed to the public to celebrate festivals of all faiths with harmony and enthusiasm.
Speaking at the peace committee meeting held in Shivamogga on Thursday, the Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration will make all arrangements necessary to ensure that the festivals are conducted smoothly. The administration would be expecting cooperation from the public, Mr. Hegade added.
He appealed to leaders of different communities to ensure no untoward incidents happen during the festivals. “The administration have already issued instructions banning the use of DJ sound systems during processions. The people who install Ganesha idols will have to ensure expert swimmers accompany them at the time of idol immersion. Wearing life jackets for the participants is mandatory,” he stated.
Superintendent of Police G.K. Mithun Kumar said that the police would take stern action against those who attempt to disturb peace during the processions. The police will keep an eye on people from neighbouring districts taking part in the celebrations in the city; the people should not lose patience, he said.
K. Mayanna Gowda, Commissioner of Shivamogga City Corporation; Additional Superintendent of Police Cariappa, and other district-level officers were present at the meeting.
