Akhil Akkineni reveals freak bathroom accident after 'Agent' that led to 48 stitches and two surgeries, delaying his 'Lenin' comeback

Telugu actor Akhil Akkineni is all set to return to the big screen with ‘Lenin’ after staying away from films for nearly three years. While many believed the long break was only because of ‘Agent’s failure, the actor has now revealed that a serious accident also kept him away from work.On the Idlebrain YouTube channel, while promoting ‘Lenin’ with co-star Bhagyashri Borse, Akhil spoke openly about the difficult phase in his life and how it affected him both physically and mentally.

Actor reveals freak bathroom accident

Akhil said the accident happened a few months after 'Agent’s release. He slipped on a wet bathroom floor and fell on a glass piece, which badly injured his left hand. He said, “I can understand, it is a long break. Half was my fault, half was not in my hands.

I had an injury with a 16-month recovery. It took some time. I had two surgeries on my left hand. 3-4 months after the Agent was released, I had an injury. It was a freak accident.

I slipped on a wet bathroom floor, and I fell on a glass piece. It cut through my vein, nerve and tendon on my left hand ring finger and middle finger. I have 48 stitches here.”

Recovery was physically and mentally difficult

The actor shared that the injury changed his life for many months. He said he was unable to lift weights or return to action training and needed a long time to regain his confidence.

“It was an unpleasant injury that shook me completely, for almost 7-8 months I could not lift any weights. It took 16 months in total to completely recover. To mentally recover and gain the strength to hit the gym again, action, anything. I couldn’t do it. Combined with that and my last film’s result, I think it was a journey I had to go through. The only thing I can reassure is that I will not let it happen again,” he added. He also admitted that he went through pain and dark thoughts after the accident. However, he said he used those feelings as motivation to prepare for his comeback.‘Lenin’ is set to release in theatres on July 10.
