Shwetha Menon refuses to quit AMMA post, questions validity of newly formed Ad Hoc committee
The leadership tussle within the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has taken another dramatic turn, with actor Shwetha Menon making it clear that she has no intention of vacating her position despite earlier announcing her resignation during the association's general body meeting. In a detailed social media statement, Shwetha asserted that she would continue to serve in her elected role until she clears the allegations against her and establishes her innocence. She claimed she has been unfairly singled out and is unwilling to step aside under the present circumstances.
Ad hoc committee begins functioning
Shwetha's statement coincided with the first meeting of AMMA's newly constituted ad hoc committee, which has been formed to oversee the association's affairs after the elected executive committee stepped down.
The temporary panel is headed by actor Ramesh Pisharody.Earlier in the day, Pisharody stated that Shwetha's resignation had not yet been officially submitted, leaving her position within the organisation unresolved.
Shwetha questions committee's legitimacy
In her post, Shwetha also challenged the legality of the ad hoc committee, arguing that its formation goes against AMMA's own constitution. Drawing a comparison with the previous executive committee led by Mohanlal, she noted that it had continued to function even after resigning until a newly elected body took charge.
Questioning the different treatment being given to the current leadership, she wrote, "How come these vested interests are dictating a different rule to us?"
Cites AMMA bylaws in her defence
Shwetha maintained that AMMA's constitution allows only one governing committee to function at any given time. According to her interpretation of the bylaws, the present elected committee should continue administering the association until fresh elections are conducted and a new executive committee officially assumes charge."As per AMMA's bylaws, there can only be one committee, and that is our committee, which should continue until the next election is conducted and a new committee is formed," she said.
Power struggle within AMMA intensifies
The actor further alleged that certain vested interests are attempting to influence AMMA members and take control of the association through what she described as unconstitutional methods. Her remarks have added another layer to the ongoing dispute, raising fresh questions over the authority of the ad hoc committee and the future leadership of AMMA as the internal crisis continues to unfold.
