As Bengaluru continues to grapple with heavy traffic along the Outer Ring Road (ORR), efforts are underway to strengthen the upcoming Namma Metro Blue Line. In a key development, two new trains are set to be added to the Blue Line corridor connecting Central Silk Board and KR Pura, a stretch expected to significantly ease congestion in the city’s busiest tech belt.
The addition is part of preparations to enhance operational efficiency and ensure smoother services once the line becomes functional.
Key Corridor Through IT Belt
The Blue Line, being developed under Namma Metro Phase 2, runs along the Outer Ring Road, one of the most congested stretches in Bengaluru. The corridor connects major hubs such as Silk Board and KR Pura, passing through critical areas including HSR Layout, Bellandur and Marathahalli.
These areas are home to several IT parks and office clusters, where daily traffic bottlenecks have become a routine challenge for commuters.
Officials expect that the addition of two new trains will help improve service capacity and frequency on the corridor. With rising commuter demand anticipated once the line opens, the move is aimed at ensuring the system is equipped to handle peak-hour traffic.
Better train availability is also expected to reduce waiting time and provide more reliable connectivity across key parts of the city.
Construction Underway, Phased Opening Likely
The Blue Line is currently under construction and is expected to be opened in phases. The Silk Board to KR Pura stretch is likely to be among the first sections to become operational, given its importance in connecting major employment zones.
Authorities are focusing on strengthening infrastructure and rolling stock in advance to ensure a smooth rollout once services begin.
For thousands of daily commuters travelling along the ORR, the Blue Line is expected to be a game-changer. By offering a reliable alternative to road travel, it is likely to reduce travel time, ease congestion and improve overall connectivity.
The addition of new trains signals a step towards building a more robust metro network, aimed at addressing Bengaluru’s growing mobility challenges.
