Jannik Sinner won his first Wimbledon title on Sunday, defeating defending champion Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in an intense final to become the first Italian man to claim the singles trophy at The Championships.

But what the World No. 1 did just after winning left everyone surprised.

Sinner, 23, climbed into the stands to celebrate with his team. He walked around, sharing hugs and smiles.

One person he embraced before even seeing his mother was British music legend Seal, whom he had become friends with at the US Open in 2022.

He eventually made his way over to his mother for an embrace.

How Jannik Sinner Beat Carlos Alcaraz?

Just five weeks after a heartbreaking loss to Alcaraz in the Roland Garros final—where he missed three championship points—Sinner showed remarkable composure on Centre Court. The 23-year-old World No. 1 changed the narrative, ending Alcaraz’s perfect 5-0 record in major finals and breaking a five-match losing streak against the Spaniard.

Sinner’s victory took three hours and four minutes of gripping tennis, where he dominated with his aggressive baseline play and strong serving. After losing the first set, the Italian broke Alcaraz early in each of the next three sets, gaining control as the match progressed. His persistent hitting, especially targeting Alcaraz’s forehand, was effective as the Spaniard’s performance declined, according to ATP.

With this win, Sinner secured his fourth Grand Slam title, now only missing Roland Garros to complete the career Grand Slam. He also leaves London with a commanding 3,430-point lead in the PIF ATP Rankings.

The journey to the final wasn’t without challenges. Sinner equalled the Open Era record for fewest games lost through three rounds, but required an MRI after a fourth-round scare, when opponent Grigor Dimitrov retired with a pectoral injury while leading two sets to love. From there, Sinner surged past Ben Shelton and Novak Djokovic to reach his fifth major final.

In Sunday’s final moments, Sinner remained resolute. He converted his first match point and celebrated with raised arms as Centre Court erupted in applause. Alcaraz, who aimed to become only the second man to win Roland Garros and Wimbledon in consecutive years, fell short despite entering with a 48-5 season record.

The rivalry between these young phenoms is now tied, with each winning three of the past seven majors.
