Jakub Mensik pulled off one of the biggest wins of his career as she showed World No. 2 Jannik Sinner the exit door at the Qatar Open on Friday in a three-setter.

Italian Sinner succumbed to Czech ace Mensik, 7-6 (7/3), 2-6, 6-3 in the former’s first event since his Australian Open semifinal defeat.

“Before the match I knew about Jannik’s quality. A great guy, a great champion," the 20-year-old said following his biggest victory yet.

“Already what he has done in his young career, it’s pretty impressive," he added.

“But even with that thought, I came to the match to win it, and actually having a winning mindset."

The triumph also proved to be the Czech star’s 10th win on the bounce in what has been a fruiful 2026 for the 20-year-old thus far.

Mensik will play Arthur Fils in the semi-finals, following the Frenchman’s straight-sets victory over Jiri Lehecka.

“Every player has their ups and downs. I’ve had two incredible years and now I’m going through a small dip, but it’s not something that worries me," the Italian said after his exit from the event in Doha.

“We try to improve in every tournament I participate in: I’d like to go as far as possible, but it’s normal to go through tough moments; I’ve had even tougher ones in the past. I know how to bounce back," Sinner added.
