With the Election Commission gearing up for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, election authorities on Wednesday conducted a divisional-level training workshop in Mysuru for officials from eight districts, with an emphasis on ensuring an error-free revision process and preventing exclusion of eligible voters.
The workshop, held at the Abdul Nazir Sab Hall in the Zilla Panchayat premises, brought together Additional Deputy Commissioners, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), election tahsildars and district technical programme managers from all eight districts of the Mysuru division.
Addressing the officials, Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy stressed that voting is a fundamental democratic right and directed officials to discharge their responsibilities with utmost diligence during the revision exercise. “No eligible voter should be deprived of the right to vote,” he said.
Joint Chief Electoral Officer V. Raghavendra, who led the training session, instructed officials to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India while carrying out the SIR exercise. He cautioned that violations of election norms had previously led to disciplinary action against officials and urged them to perform their duties responsibly and efficiently.
He also called for thorough verification of migrant voters, inclusion of eligible electors and removal of ineligible entries to avoid discrepancies in the voter database.
The training covered procedures related to fresh voter enrolment, corrections in voter details, change of address, deletion of names of deceased and duplicate voters, besides the use of online election services.
Mysuru Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya also participated in the session along with officials from all eight districts.
