A six-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by an unidentified woman from a toddy compound in Shamshabad earlier this month.

Though the incident took place on July 1, it was reported to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police only on July 7, prompting them to register a case of kidnap.

According to an official from the RGIA police, the complainant Lakshmamma, 30, a rag picker from Mahabubnagar, stopped at a toddy compound in Shamshabad with her two daughters - K. Keerthana, 6, and K. Archana , 3, while returning home by train.

While at the compound, a middle-aged woman approached Lakshmamma and fled with Keerthana.

Lakshmamma reportedly searched for her daughter for several days before finally approaching the police on Monday night. Investigators later retrieved CCTV footage showing the suspect leaving the compound with the child.

Officials are now examining additional surveillance footage from the area and nearby roads to trace the accused and rescue the child.
