Police are probing deleted chats, location logs and a final phone call allegedly made minutes before Ketan Agarwal's death as they build the conspiracy case against the accused.

A forensic examination of the mobile phones of the accused in the murder of 26-year-old businessman Ketan Agarwal has uncovered what investigators believe is a crucial piece of digital evidence.
A phone call made by prime accused Siya Goyal to her alleged lover and co-accused Chetan Chaudhary just 34 minutes before Ketan was pushed off a cliff at Lohagad Fort in Pune is now being investigated, NDTV reported, citing sources.
According to the report, the call, identified through the accused’s Call Detail Records (CDR), is being treated by investigators as the final go-ahead before the alleged murder was carried out.
The report quoted sources as saying that the forensic analysis of the two accused’s mobile handsets led police to the call, which is now being examined as a key part of the alleged conspiracy.
Police believe Goyal used the call to share her precise location at a viewpoint on the fort and allegedly informed Chaudhary that there were no tourists nearby, making the spot suitable for executing their plan, the report mentioned.
Separately, ANI, quoting Pune Rural Police, reported that investigators have found Goyal allegedly gave a pre-decided visual signal to Chaudhary shortly before the incident.
According to police, Goyal sat on the ground pretending to drink water, a move investigators believe ensured she remained out of Ketan’s reach as he was allegedly pushed off the cliff.
Police suspect the act was carefully planned so that the victim would not be able to grab her in an attempt to save himself.
“In the ongoing probe, it has come to light that the crime was allegedly planned by accused Siya Goyal and her friend Chetan Chaudhary," a Pune Rural Police official told ANI.
Police have alleged that the two finalised the conspiracy during a meeting at a cafe in Pune’s Lullanagar area a day before the incident.
Investigators said CCTV footage recovered from the area supports this claim.
Authorities have also alleged that the accused rehearsed the crime before carrying it out and were attempting to identify where those rehearsals took place, ANI reported.
DELETED CHATS, DIGITAL TRAIL UNDER FORENSIC EXAMINATION
Investigators suspect the accused deleted WhatsApp chats, Instagram conversations and voice notes exchanged over nearly three months in an attempt to erase evidence of the alleged murder plot.
The police cyber wing is now working with forensic experts to recover the deleted data.
Investigators are reportedly cross-checking the recovered conversations with location logs and internet IP address records from around the time of the final phone call.
Investigators have also pieced together an alleged timeline of events on the day of the incident.
Chetan Chaudhary allegedly disabled his mobile internet around 7 am to avoid creating a digital location trail and later left his personal phone at his workplace while asking employees to answer incoming calls.
Investigators believe he also borrowed another employee’s phone for necessary communication while travelling to Lohagad Fort.
Chaudhary followed Ketan and Siya to the fort while wearing a thick winter hoodie despite the hot weather, a detail that later attracted investigators’ attention after being captured on CCTV footage.
According to the report, when the trio reached a secluded area near the Vinchu Kata ridge, Siya allegedly sat down, which investigators believe served as a visual cue for Chaudhary before Ketan was allegedly pushed into the gorge.
Chaudhary remained offline for nearly 10 hours before reconnecting to the internet later in the evening.
Investigators reportedly considered this prolonged digital silence suspicious while examining his movements.
MOTIVE, EARLIER ATTEMPT UNDER PROBE
According to NDTV, police have also found that the alleged murder plan had been finalised by the end of May and that an earlier attempt to kill Ketan was allegedly made on June 14.
Ketan survived after grabbing onto a bush, following which Goyal allegedly claimed she had accidentally pushed him because of a snake.
Police further allege that Chaudhary decided to follow the couple to Lohagad Fort on June 18 to ensure Ketan did not escape during the second attempt, according to the report.
Goyal, who was engaged to Ketan on February 19 and was scheduled to marry him later this year, was unwilling to go ahead with the marriage as she had allegedly been in a relationship with Chaudhary since October last year.
Investigators were also examining whether the alleged conspiracy was intended to delay the marriage, with sources claiming the accused wanted “three years of freedom" before getting married themselves.
Both accused were arrested on June 23 and were remanded to seven-day police custody till June 29.
The Maharashtra government has approved the setting up of a fast-track court in the case and appointed senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Ujjwal Nikam as the Special Public Prosecutor after the victim’s family sought a speedy trial.
