New Delhi: Qualcomm has recently unveiled its latest entry-level processor focused on reshaping the low-cost laptop segment by pushing its Arm-based PC strategy further down the price stack.

Qualcomm announced its Snapdragon C platform, specially designed for laptops, starting at around $300 (roughly Rs 28,541), with the device set to be unveiled later this year. This shift brings Qualcomm into more direct competition with Apple’s MacBook Neo, which has rapidly gained traction on the back of pricing and efficiency.

Snapdragon X series, which is aimed at premium Windows laptops, Snapdragon C is positioned for the entry-level devices aimed at everyday computing. This chip is specially designed for tasks such as web browsing, video streaming, productivity applications, and video calls, with the aim of power efficiency, all-day battery life, and quiet operation.

It also includes an integrated neural processing unit (NPU) for the AI-related workloads, although it is not yet positioned as the high-end AI PC platform, and it is not expected to qualify for the Copilot+ PCs.

This places Snapdragon C in devices focused on students, families, and small businesses to handle workloads that are largely browser-driven and less dependent on high-performance hardware. The entry-level laptop segment has been defined by trade-offs, limited RAM, slow storage, and inconsistent performance, often resulting in devices that meet the price aims but fall short on usability.

This device is powered by an iPhone-grade A-series processor instead of Apple’s M-series silicon, and it also keeps costs in check with the compromises such as lower memory, no backlit keyboard, and a more compact form factor.

It actually means that Snapdragon C is entering the market where the benchmark is no longer just affordability, but whether lower-cost devices can feel reliable in everyday use.
