An employee of the Department of Social Welfare was reportedly found dead in Shivamogga.

Suresh, 57, who was posted at the post-metric hostel of the department at Gadikoppa in Shivamogga, allegedly attempted to end his life on July 31. He was admitted to McGann Hospital in the city, where he died on Monday. He is survived by his wife and two children.

It was said that Suresh often worked as a cook at the official residence of a senior bureaucrat in the district.

The Kote police registered an unnatural death report based on the statement of his family members. According to the family members, he had health issues and was worried over clearing a house loan.

However, there were reports that Suresh was disappointed as a senior official in the department reprimanded him for being absent from his duties without informing the higher-ups.

D. Malleshappa, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department, told The Hindu that, according to his family members, he ended his life due to health issues and the burden of loan. “The department had not issued any notice seeking explanation from him,” he added.
