New Delhi: Sony has officially introduced its most-anticipated Sony Xperia 1 VIII, which arrives with a larger telephoto sensor, a faster, more powerful processor, and familiar Xperia touches like a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot.
It features a 6.5-inch LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a bezel-mounted selfie camera. Sony now moves away from the continuous optical zoom design, which was used from the Xperia 1 III to the Xperia 1 VII.
Sony Xperia 1 VIII rather than relying on a 48MP telephoto sensor locked at 70mm, it uses cropping for the longer zoom levels. It includes expandable storage, a two-stage shutter key, and a flat screen with no camera cutout.
However, the rear camera setup still centers on a 48MP 1/1.35-inch main sensor coupled with a 24mm f/1.9 lens and OIS support. Along with this, there is a 48MP 1/1.56-inch ultra-wide camera using a 16mm f/2.0 lens, and a 12MP selfie sensor with a 1/2.9-inch sensor and 24mm f/2.0 optics.
The telephoto camera sees the most amazing redesign on the Xperia 1 VIII. Sony has the latest 1/1.56-inch sensor with 48MP, four times larger and denser than the Xperia 1 VII telephoto sensor. This lens now sits at 70mm, offering 2.9x magnification over the 24mm main camera, and uses an f/2.8 aperture that aims for better low-light performance.
It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, which Sony promises will deliver a 20% CPU boost, 23% faster GPU performance, and improved power efficiency over the previous generation.
The updated AI engine also powers Xperia Intelligence features, including the latest AI Camera Assistant that indicates scene-based camera settings while still enabling manual adjustments.
It is coupled with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB onboard storage. It is housed with the standard 5,000mAh battery pack with 30W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
