Southern Railway cancels 41 Chennai suburban trains for engineering works

Chennai: Commuters on the city’s suburban rail network are likely to face inconvenience on July 5 and 12 (next two Sundays) with Southern Railway cancelling 41 EMU services for five hours to facilitate engineering works between Chennai Beach and Tambaram.A release said that the line and power block has been permitted in the Chennai Egmore–Villupuram section from 10.30am to 3.30pm on both days as part of ongoing engineering works. As a result, several EMU services between Chennai Beach and Tambaram, Chengalpet, Arakkonam and Tirumalpur in both directions have been fully cancelled.To minimise inconvenience, Southern Railway will operate special passenger trains between Tambaram and Chengalpet, Arakkonam and Tirumalpur during the block period. The special services will operate at scheduled intervals to provide connectivity in the affected sections.
