In the first three months of 2026, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) booked a whopping 1.78 lakh cases of wrong-way driving, the highest number recorded in the first quarter over the past five years, data shows.

The data also shows that cases booked for wrong-way driving in the first quarter of 2026 are over 58% of those booked in the entire year of 2025, which saw 3.03 lakh cases booked. The BTP had booked 1.87 lakh cases of driving against traffic in 2024, and about 1.44 lakh in 2023. However, these cases were much higher in 2021 and 2022.
