Srikakulam district has been witnessing high temperatures for the past week, with people staying indoors even after 4 p.m. Temperatures in the district, which are usually higher in May, have been unbearable in April. The mercury touched 45.4 degrees Celsius in Kotturu on Thursday (April 23, 2026). Heatwave conditions were also recorded in Amdalavalasa, Burja, Hiramandalam, Jalumuru, Kanchili, Mandasa, Nandigam, Patapatnam, Saravakota and Sarubujjili, with temperatures between 40 and 44 degrees Celsius.

Srikakulam Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar asked people to stay indoors between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. to protect themselves from the heat. He said officials of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority had issued guidelines on summer care. People have been asked to drink water regularly and to seek medical help if they develop fever or other symptoms after exposure to direct sunlight, he said.
