Cyberabad traffic police have called on schools to take a more proactive role in easing traffic congestion around campuses and U-turns, stressing the need for staggered timings, greater reliance on school buses and stricter safety checks for transport staff.
These measures were discussed at a co-ordination meeting on Friday (August 29) chaired by the Cyberabad Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Gajarao Bhupal and attended by school principals and management representatives from across the city.
One of the key recommendations was to encourage more students to use school buses rather than private cars, which officials said would significantly reduce vehicle rush during peak hours. Proper planning of bus routes was also highlighted to avoid multiple buses crowding the same stretches of road, a frequent cause of bottlenecks.
To further ease congestion, the police suggested staggering school timings so that institutions in the same locality do not release students simultaneously. Parents were urged to limit the use of private vehicles, adopt car pooling and participate in awareness programmes on traffic management.
Ensuring the safety of schoolchildren was another focus area. The police emphasised the need for regular breathalyser tests of bus drivers and conductors, and assured that traffic personnel would provide assistance at signals and regulate the movement of school buses during peak hours.
The meeting was attended by Madhapur Traffic DCP Sai Manohar, ACP Chandrashekar Reddy, Society for Cyberabad Security Council CEO Naved Khan and representatives from several leading institutions, including Sancta Maria International School, Delhi Public School (Nanakramguda), Oakridge International School, Chirec International School, Meridian School, NASR School, Sreenidhi International School, Birla Open Minds International School, Phoenix Greens International School, Pallavi International School, Sriram International School and others.
