The State government has extended the suspension of senior IPS officer and former CID chief P.V. Sunil Kumar for another six months following a review committee’s recommendation.
The committee observed that revoking the suspension at this stage could enable him to tamper with evidence or influence the ongoing inquiry.
A 1993-batch officer, Mr. Sunil Kumar was initially suspended for unauthorised foreign visits and deviations from approved travel plans. He also faces allegations of custodial torture of former MP K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, for which a case was registered by Nagarampalem police in Guntur district.
His suspension has now been extended under Rule 3(8)(d) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, for 180 days—until February 24, 2026, or until further orders. The Director General of Police has been instructed to take necessary further action.
