The State government is committed to developing Belagavi on the lines of the State capital, Bengaluru, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said in Belagavi on Wednesday.
“I feel happy every time I arrive in Belagavi. At times, I feel its climate is better than in Bengaluru. We are committed to ensuring the all-round development of Belagavi,” he said.
He was speaking after flagging off a Swachchata Run near the Fort Lake.
Urban Development and Urban Planning Minister Byrathi Suresh said that the State government has implemented several projects for the development of Belagavi.
He was speaking during the inauguration ceremony of the cleanliness run organized by the Urban Development Department and the Municipal Administration Department.
It was the dream of Mahatma Gandhi that the environment around us should be clean. He said that it is the duty of every citizen to make his dream come true. “Our government has given priority to cleanliness in urban areas. Waste disposal is being done scientifically in cities,” he said.
“It is a matter of joy that cities in our State are also getting a place in the top list of cleanest cities in the country. We are working towards a scenario where more cities, including Belagavi, joined this list in the coming days,” he said.
A large number of people, young and old, men and women participated in the run.
