Student accused in NEET paper leak case can sit for June 21 re-exam, says court

A Delhi court on Tuesday (June 16, 2026) permitted Yash Yadav, a medical student accused in the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case, to appear for the re-examination scheduled on June 21.

Special judge Vishal Gogne of the Rouse Avenue Court said that although the applicant is accused of serious offences relating to the alleged circulation and sale of confidential examination material, the charges alone cannot deprive him of his right to sit for the examination.

The direction came while the court was hearing an application filed by Mr. Yadav seeking temporary release from judicial custody for 15 days. He submitted that the relief was necessary to enable him to appear for the medical entrance re-test and attend a family function.

The court, however, reserved its decision on his plea for interim bail.

In an earlier order, the court had allowed the accused access to study material while in custody so that he could prepare for the re-examination.

Mr. Yadav is among those named in the ongoing investigation into the leak of the NEET-UG 2026 question paper. The controversy prompted authorities to cancel the earlier examination and conduct a fresh test on June 21 under enhanced security arrangements.
