Serious concerns have emerged over food safety at the Jammaladinni Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential School in Muddebihal taluk of Karnataka’s Vijayapura district after worms were allegedly found in the rice supplied to the school.

CNN News18 sources said the rice was heavily infested, forcing kitchen staff to manually separate worms before cooking. Despite the poor quality of the food grains, meals were prepared and served to students, causing anger and distress among the children.

The matter came to light after a parent visited the school and saw the condition of the rice being used in the kitchen. Following this, students staged a protest inside the school premises, demanding safe and hygienic food.

Parents and students alleged that the issue has been continuing for nearly six months. Children who ate the rice reportedly faced frequent health problems, including stomach ailments and occasional food poisoning.

Even now, kitchen staff are said to be struggling to remove worms from the rice before cooking, pointing to lapses in food quality checks. Parents have urged authorities to inspect the food stocks, ensure strict quality control, and take action against those responsible to protect the students’ health.
