Sultry weather returns after heavy rain

Kanpur: A day after intense rainfall, the city witnessed dry and humid weather with no signs of rain or cloud cover.The maximum temperature was recorded at 37.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum settled at 25.8 degrees Celsius.Though the maximum temperature hovered between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius, the feels-like temperature, or heat index, in Kanpur Nagar was estimated at 45-47 degrees Celsius due to high humidity levels, which touched 83%.The combined effect of heat and humidity caused severe discomfort and sultry conditions across the city.Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail on Sunday.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), scattered rain or thundershowers accompanied by high humidity are expected in districts of the Kanpur division over the next 24 hours.The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a warning for thunderstorms, rainfall and lightning strikes in all districts of the division due to active monsoon conditions.In Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat, the sky is expected to remain partly to heavily cloudy, with chances of scattered rain, thunderstorms and strong winds with speeds ranging between 40 and 50 kmph during afternoon or night hours.Dr. S.N. Sunil Pandey, weather expert at CSA University, said that the presence of atmospheric moisture and increased moisture influx indicate cloudy conditions in the Kanpur division from July 5 to July 8.

He said there is a possibility of strong winds, isolated drizzle and light to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds during this period.He further warned that heat and humidity levels are likely to increase whenever sunshine reappears after intermittent rainfall.
